Proverbs 3:11-12

11My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord,
Nor detest His correction;
12For whom the Lord loves He corrects,
Just as a father the son in whom he delights.
-Proverbs 3:11-12

This passage should ring a bell for us. It is quoted in the book of Hebrews. The chastening of the Lord is a good thing. We tend to already have a poor scope of love because of the way that the world defines it. As such, we often fail to see correction as a good and loving thing to do. Yet it is out of the love that the Father has for His children to discipline His children. Knowing this, we should not despise it nor flee from it but welcome it. His correction will be the best correction we could ever get. By it, we grow and learn spiritually. We benefit greatly from it.

I know many believers who have slipped up in sin and fear returning to reading Scripture because they face the guilt of their sin. They run from the correction of the Lord. Do not do the same. Hasten to the Lord, for in Him alone is the grace to cleanse you from that sin. I pray that the Lord keeps me uncomfortable with sin and chastens me into the right way. I pray the same for you.
