Proverbs 11:24-26
24There is one who scatters, yet increases more;
And there is one who withholds more than is right,
But it leads to poverty.
25The generous soul will be made rich,
And he who waters will also be watered himself.
26The people will curse him who withholds grain,
But blessing will be on the head of him who sells it.
-Proverbs 11:24-26
I find that the practical side of this application makes pretty clear sense from an investment standpoint. However, something should perk up in your reading when you are seeing things like scattering seeds and watering.
6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. 7 So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. 8 Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor.
1 Cor 3:6-8
We can easily read this proverb as being about our preaching the gospel! Who are we to withhold the teaching of the word of God? And if we do, will we not become impoverished spiritually? If we are generous in our teaching of Scripture, will we not become spiritually rich? Verse 26 testifies of the results clearly. To withhold this message is to curse those without it. But to distribute it is to bless.
