Proverbs 13:8

8      The ransom of a man’s life is his riches,
But the poor does not hear rebuke.
-Proverbs 13:8

One of the things I love about Proverbs is the practical wisdom given. While many may view wealth as being a great goal, it does come with its downsides. A wealthy man is often targeted or favored for the sake of his money. People may seek to take advantage of him or woo him that they might profit from him. The poor does not suffer such things, for they have nothing to give. Who will seek to kidnap and ransom a poor man? There is no gain in it for anyone. For what reason who someone seek to take advantage of the poor? Again there is no gain available. Therefore, it is not wealth or poverty that makes a man but, "Godliness with contentment is great gain." (1 Tim. 6:6). Set your pursuit after the Lord and contentment in all things.
