Proverbs 29:5

5A man who flatters his neighbor
Spreads a net for his feet.
-Proverbs 29:5

It can be often difficult to see the trap laid for us when we fall for flattery. Flattery, as highlighted many times throughout the Proverbs, is a snare laid in wait for its victim. False teachers use flattery to enter into influential positions. Nations have been overthrown by tools of flattery. This becomes an issue when we have a people that are shallow and insecure. Flattery is appealing and draws us in. This is one of the many reasons it is crucial for us to be secure in our faith and identity in the Lord. What can man add or take away from me? If Christ is my all in all then no degree of flattery or insult should be able to move me. Flattery is no snare to the man who looks only to His Father to be pleased with Him.
