Proverbs 12:2

2A good man obtains favor from the Lord,
But a man of wicked intentions He will condemn.
-Proverbs 12:2

Verses like this ought to stand out to you. When you have a very clear picture of what the Lord loves and hates, latch on to that and remember it. Whereas we have previously talked about actions, in this verse we now speak of character. A good man obtains favor, but what classifies what a good man is? Is not one who follows the Lord with a whole heart, filled with faith, and continuing in righteousness? Most definitely, it is one who is in Christ. Yet what of the character of the wicked? It does not classify them the same way, rather, it highlights the wicked intent. Intending to do wickedness is condemnable. Whether or not the wicked goal is achieved, the intent of wickedness still bears witness of a corrupt spirit. Keep yourself from wickedness and pursue after righteousness. In short,

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
-Romans 12:1-2
