Proverbs 5:15-20
15Drink water from your own cistern,
And running water from your own well.
16Should your fountains be dispersed abroad,
Streams of water in the streets?
17Let them be only your own,
And not for strangers with you.
18Let your fountain be blessed,
And rejoice with the wife of your youth.
19As a loving deer and a graceful doe,
Let her breasts satisfy you at all times;
And always be enraptured with her love.
20For why should you, my son, be enraptured by an immoral woman,
And be embraced in the arms of a seductress?
-Proverbs 5:15-20
The analogies that Scripture gives concerning adultery paints a very clear picture of what the expectation and boundaries are. It can be easy to blur these lines if we are not invested in the word of God. In short, do not wander from your spouse. Do not develop eyes that look around while you have your own. In a similar vein, we should think of this in regard to our relationship with the Lord. Let us not be like the church of Ephesus that had forgotten their first love, that being Christ. We should not be those looking at what other religions are doing and adopting practices from them. We should not be entertaining the idea of melding with them. Our allegiance is with the Lord. Conversely, to the seriousness that we would hold our faith, we should hold to our spouse, refraining from joining to another.
