Proverbs 6:12-15

12A worthless person, a wicked man,
Walks with a perverse mouth;
13He winks with his eyes,
He shuffles his feet,
He points with his fingers;
14Perversity is in his heart,
He devises evil continually,
He sows discord.
15Therefore his calamity shall come suddenly;
Suddenly he shall be broken without remedy.
-Proverbs 6:12-15

Have you ever noticed how the bible will use language that we as believers refuse to use? Take the first three words as an example. What does Scripture compare a worthless person to? It compares it to a wicked man. A lot of the language that we have adopted as believers in the name of being loving has turned us from using appropriate language in regard to wickedness. It has started to undermine the righteousness of God in contrast to the wickedness of this world. Language such as worthlessness holds a very different weight than wickedness does. Perhaps it is because we have overestimated what worth means. Or perhaps it is because we are too closely associated with wickedness.

To Scripture, wickedness is worthlessness. Perversity in language, in action, and in the heart all  demonstrate this worthlessness. Call wickedness for what it is. No matter how we may mince words, the judgement remains swift and certain. Cling then to righteousness and walk in her path. Conduct yourself in wisdom and it will do well for you.
