Proverbs 9:10-12

    10      “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,
    And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
    11      For by me your days will be multiplied,
    And years of life will be added to you.
    12      If you are wise, you are wise for yourself,
    And if you scoff, you will bear it alone.”
-Proverbs 9:10-12

Wisdom comes with a reward. In fact, it comes with several. You grow nearer to the Lord by wisdom. You grow in understanding. Your days are multiplied. It may preserve your life. There are consequences to foolishness, and the reward they reap are the exact opposite of the rewards of wisdom.

Wisdom, while it may benefit those around you, is primarily beneficial to you. Foolishness has the same effect. The choice remains yours as to whether you will walk in wisdom and heed instruction, or follow the path of fools and scoff at wisdom.
