Proverbs 13:18

18Poverty and shame will come to him who disdains correction,
But he who regards a rebuke will be honored.
-Proverbs 13:18

Taking correction is hard. It takes a lot of humility and willingness to learn from others. It takes releasing pride to admit that you are wrong. The end of the correction will bring about fruitfulness however. Jesus even speaks of the Father pruning the vine that it may bear more fruit in John 15. While it may not be fun, it should be something that we see as important for our lives. Everyone is willing to admit that they don't have it all together until someone shows them where they don't have it together at. Shame awaits the one that resists it. The one who regards it will be honored. It is interesting how that works out. When we are going through the correction, we tend to think of it the other way around. We feel like if we stand strong in the rebuke that we can forgo any kind of shame and humbling ourselves will feel like the epitome of shame. Scripture highlights that it is the other way around. We will not be shamed by heeding the rebuke. Heed correction, and walk in humility.
