Proverbs 11:2
When pride comes, then comes shame;
But with the humble is wisdom.
-Proverbs 11:2
There is the famous saying that goes, "Pride comes before the fall." The idea finds itself rooted in Genesis 3 with the fall of man. It is interesting that we are here thousands of years later and find ourselves in a similar place. Pride is destructive to our lives. Our culture actively promotes varying degrees of pride. Even within the church we encourage a certain amount of pride. A challenge I have for you is this: consider what you think is worth having pride in and then study Scripture to see what the Lord would tell us to have pride in.
We should never error on the side of pride. God resists the proud, but He gives grace to the humble. Therefore we should error on the side of humility. With the humble is wisdom. If by one, shame comes, yet by the other wisdom comes, which would you see fit to live by? Let us live by humility.
