Proverbs 15:21

21Folly is joy to him who is destitute of discernment,
But a man of understanding walks uprightly.
-Proverbs 15:21

There was a time in college when I was being hounded by a few people to jump into the party scene. Most of the time they were respectful about my declines, though one of the times someone finally asked me why I wouldn't go. I told him stupid choices don't sound fun.

The foolish delight in their folly. In a lack of discernment, they become blind to seeing how their decisions affect them. Without such discernment, of course folly would be a joy. You get all the pleasure of doing something dumb without the fear of repercussion. That is until the consequences are met. When one has discernment and walks in understanding, it guides them into walking in uprightness. So where is the application here? Grow in discernment and understanding. Folly and uprightness are consequences of where we are with understanding and discernment. Be invested in the word of God and grow continually in that. Godly wisdom and understanding will prevail over that of the world.
