Proverbs 20:26

26 A wise king sifts out the wicked,
And brings the threshing wheel over them.
-Proverbs 20:26

There is a question that should be asked more in our modern day. What is the purpose of government? I consider this question biblically. There is a consistent argument made throughout Scripture that good, righteous governance is designed to edify righteousness and punish wickedness. A wise king will identify the wicked and remove them from the situation. That is how things should work out. Unfortunately, we so frequently find that wickedness gains the ability to thrive and righteousness is instead punished. What are we to do with that? Pray. Pray for our leaders and those in governing positions. Continue to walk in righteousness and show yourself to be above reproach. The early church all had it harder than we do now when it comes to the leaders that were over them. Yet still, Paul encouraged the saints to pray for their leaders and to submit to the governing authorities. Let us navigate this with wisdom and in the fear of the Lord.
