Proverbs 22:9

9He who has a generous eye will be blessed,
For he gives of his bread to the poor.
-Proverbs 22:9

As believers, there is an understanding that we need to have when it comes to possessions. We do not actually own anything. We are simply managing what the Lord gave us or allowed for us to have. As the Lord instructs generosity, we need to be prepared to be distribute as He instructs. And there is blessing that follows that. This being said, that does not mean that we become unwise and just start throwing money around. Absolutely the Lord may call you to do something crazy and you need to be obedient to that. It was a crazy thing that Jesus told the rich young ruler to sell all he had and give to the poor, but the obedience was necessary. The issue with stewardship that we must consider is that we are to do as the master instructs. If that means selling and distributing, then it means to do that. If it means investing and building up, then we must do that. The wisdom we have in regard to our possessions must come from the Lord and we must do as He instructs. Pray about what you have and what you should do. Seek wise counsel. Above all, be obedient to what the Lord calls for you to do.
