Psalm 18:1-3

    1      I will love You, O LORD, my strength. 2 The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
    My God, my strength, in whom I will trust;
    My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
    3      I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised;
    So shall I be saved from my enemies.
-Psalm 18:1-3

This Psalm was written by David in a time that he was delivered from Saul and his enemies. We have another record of this Psalm in 2 Samuel 22. I would strongly encourage reading the entire Psalm as the praises David offers are an incredible testament to the work and might of God. For the sake of this devotion we will be focusing on these first 3 verses.

There is a lot to be said of our strength coming about from the Lord. Most of the time we fail to recognize our own pride in trying to navigate life by our own strength, only calling upon the Lord in situations that we feel inadequate to accomplish. Likewise, we tend to exclusively trust ourselves to be our own rock, fortress and deliverer until we feel inadequate in those as well. What we are left with is a very incompatible mix of trust in the Lord and trusting in our own flesh.

Your flesh is not trustworthy. We should never be turning to our own strength to walk this life out. We should be very quick to walk in the Lord's strength. We ought to be quick to call upon the Lord. The problems we run into in life are allotted that we should depend upon the Lord. How slow we are to learn to lean upon our God! He is our strength and our salvation!

Call upon the name of the Lord, not upon your untrustworthy flesh! The Lord is worthy to be praise in the salvation He regularly brings to you. Not just eternal salvation, but also in how He continues to preserve you. Rejoice in Him and let Him be your strength!
