Proverbs 31:4-5

    4      It is not for kings, O Lemuel,
    It is not for kings to drink wine,
    Nor for princes intoxicating drink;
    5      Lest they drink and forget the law,
    And pervert the justice of all the afflicted.
-Proverbs 31:4-5

There is a lot to be said of the wisdom in moderation, but there is also much to eb said of the wisdom of abstaining from a thing. Kings and princes would be needed at various times. As such, it would often be unwise for them to indulge in any degree of drink, lest they be overcome and respond in foolishness. Once again, if we look upon history, we can see a multitude of examples of kingdoms that were ruined by drunken leaders. It is not to say that the substance itself is sinful, but that which becomes of it. We must have proper discernment concerning ourselves with strong drink.
