Proverbs 29:19

19A servant will not be corrected by mere words;
For though he understands, he will not respond.
-Proverbs 29:19

There is a reality that empty and baseless words will not help to provide a necessary degree of correction that is needed to produce righteousness. Imagine a boss that ever threatens discipline but never follows through. His employees will act in complete disarray and disregard for him and the company. Consider a parent that allows their child to do whatever the child desires and only seeks to lecture. The child may know what is being said but will continue, for there is no consequence of their actions. There is often a necessity to consequences that teaches us how certain behaviors are unacceptable. If we are in a place at which we receive consequences, let us take them in stride and learn as we ought to. If we are in a place of giving consequence, let us do so with the intent to restore.
