Psalm 98

1Oh, sing to the Lord a new song!
For He has done marvelous things;
His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory.
2The Lord has made known His salvation;
His righteousness He has revealed in the sight of the nations.
3He has remembered His mercy and His faithfulness to the house of Israel;
All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
4Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth;
Break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises.
5Sing to the Lord with the harp,
With the harp and the sound of a psalm,
6With trumpets and the sound of a horn;
Shout joyfully before the Lord, the King.
7Let the sea roar, and all its fullness,
The world and those who dwell in it;
8Let the rivers clap their hands;
Let the hills be joyful together before the Lord,
9For He is coming to judge the earth.
With righteousness He shall judge the world,
And the peoples with equity.
-Psalm 98

I remember as a child watching my dad play the drums. I would laugh as I marveled at the way that he played. It was something that seemed so impossible, yet it was being done. Still, I cannot play the way that he was, but much of that marvel has been lost as I have grown accustomed to it. In a similar fashion, when I entered into faith, I continually marveled at everything concerning the Lord. As life continued, it became easy to simply grow accustomed to the fact that God is incredible.

It was not until more recent years that I realize this to be a problem. Some see it as a matter of maturity, but the writers throughout Scripture continually marveled at the works of the Lord. They marveled at His works in the past, present, and future. Thus their lives reflected a lifestyle of praise. As we recently discussed the matter of being close to the Lord to have more creative praise, we also need to grow in that intimacy with the Lord that we would forever marvel at Him. What amazes you about the Lord? Praise Him for it!
