Psalm 119 - Resh

153Consider my affliction and deliver me,
For I do not forget Your law.
154Plead my cause and redeem me;
Revive me according to Your word.
155Salvation is far from the wicked,
For they do not seek Your statutes.
156Great are Your tender mercies, O Lord;
Revive me according to Your judgments.
157Many are my persecutors and my enemies,
Yet I do not turn from Your testimonies.
158I see the treacherous, and am disgusted,
Because they do not keep Your word.
159Consider how I love Your precepts;
Revive me, O Lord, according to Your lovingkindness.
160The entirety of Your word is truth,
And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.
-Psalm 119:153-160

We see a lot of reviving taking place in this passage. What I find interesting about it is how the reviving takes place. We certainly could use much of this in our own churches here and now. So let us be attentive to what is being said. The reviving comes first from God's Word. Man does not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. This is the sustenance of the believer. Then the reviving comes from the judgments of God. When we see that He is Verity and Justice and know that His judgments are true, we can walk in a full assurance that what we do unto Him is rightly reward, or else otherwise rightly punished. The final reviving we see from God's lovingkindness and His mercy. In the light of His Word and judgments, the contrast between man and God can be stark. However with His mercy extended toward us who believe, we can stand boldly before Him, see His faithfulness to His name. Praise be the Lord who revives us in His way!
