Psalm 127

1Unless the Lord builds the house,
They labor in vain who build it;
Unless the Lord guards the city,
The watchman stays awake in vain.
2It is vain for you to rise up early,
To sit up late,
To eat the bread of sorrows;
For so He gives His beloved sleep.
3Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,
The fruit of the womb is a reward.
4Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one’s youth.
5Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them;
They shall not be ashamed,
But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.
-Psalm 127

We should consider often the vanity of what we do absent from the Lord. For if the Lord isn't building, the builders build in vain. We can go through life and put all the effort we can muster into building our income, retirement fund, or resume, only to find it mattered not. This is not to say that any of those things are bad. It becomes problematic when it is in isolation of the Lord. In our culture of instant gratification, we build hastily. Prayerfully consider what you do and what you need to do. This is part of what it means to trust in the Lord. We trust that when He says to build, we build. And when He says to wait, we wait. We need to solidify ourselves in doing as the Lord instructs. For when the Lord does something, He does it for purpose. Join in with the purpose of God. Rejoice in what He rejoices in. Trust in what He says. Reap righteousness as you sow in Him. Praise the Lord!
