Psalm 130

1Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord;
2Lord, hear my voice!
Let Your ears be attentive
To the voice of my supplications.
3If You, Lord, should mark iniquities,
O Lord, who could stand?
4But there is forgiveness with You,
That You may be feared.
5I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
And in His word I do hope.
6My soul waits for the Lord
More than those who watch for the morning—
Yes, more than those who watch for the morning.
7O Israel, hope in the Lord;
For with the Lord there is mercy,
And with Him is abundant redemption.
8And He shall redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.
-Psalm 130

Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord that He brings forgiveness. I find it intriguing that as the Psalmist recognizes the forgiveness in the Lord that he also recognizes that the forgiveness causes the Lord to be feared. Surely we would think it opposite. Perhaps that would serve as an indicator that we do not know the Lord as we ought. Knowing that the Lord offers forgiveness does not permit for us to be lax in regard to sin, but even more firm. It leads us to desire to walk in the fear of the Lord that we may please Him. If you bore a great debt and that debt was forgiven, how hastily are you to walk back into debt? You would flee the idea! If I was indebted millions, the last thing that I would want to do is get back into it if it was forgiven. I would fear the debtor so that I would not walk back into it. Fear the Lord your God and wait upon the Lord. Put your hope fully upon Him and in the grace that He brings.
