Psalm 131

1Lord, my heart is not haughty,
Nor my eyes lofty.
Neither do I concern myself with great matters,
Nor with things too profound for me.
2Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul,
Like a weaned child with his mother;
Like a weaned child is my soul within me.
3O Israel, hope in the Lord
From this time forth and forever.
-Psalm 131

We have been taught in America to dream big and large. Shoot for the moon and if you miss you may land among the stars. While I do not think it is a terrible thing to dream big, I do think that this mentality has led us to a place contrary to the word of God. For our heart has become haughty and our eyes lofty. We need to ground ourselves with the word of God. I think back to Psalm 127 that says, "Unless the Lord builds the house the builder builds in vain." Allow yourself to be led by the Lord in your pursuits. Do not put your hope in yourself or your own dreams, but in that of the Lord. He is faithful forevermore. Amen.
