Psalm 139:19-22

19Oh, that You would slay the wicked, O God!
Depart from me, therefore, you bloodthirsty men.
20For they speak against You wickedly;
Your enemies take Your name in vain.
21Do I not hate them, O Lord, who hate You?
And do I not loathe those who rise up against You?
22I hate them with perfect hatred;
I count them my enemies.
-Psalm 139:19-22

I find it interesting that this Psalm trends into imprecatory waters. Through the evidence of God being near to the Psalmist and recognizing the totality of the Lord's recognition of him, we enter into this section that condemns wickedness. While it is jolting at first, contextually it starts to make a lot of sense. The natural progression of the goodness of God to the saints goes back to the severity of God toward those who reject Him and His people. See Romans 11 for more on this. Wickedness ought to be hated with a perfect hatred. This is a prayer that we can all adopt. May we learn to loathe that which the Lord loathes and love that which He loves. Learn to hate wickedness and love righteousness.
