Psalm 145:8-9

8The Lord is gracious and full of compassion,
Slow to anger and great in mercy.
9The Lord is good to all,
And His tender mercies are over all His works.
-Psalm 145:8-9

We give a lot of time to speak of the incredible graciousness of the Lord and His abundant mercy. We testify of the wrath of God and give praise that He is slow to anger. Something that I have found to be less addressed is the compassion of God. Jesus, looking at the multitudes, had compassion upon them because they were like sheep without a shepherd. They were scattered about and had no lead. The Lord saw us as such and invited us into His flock to care for us as His own. He looked at you and had compassion. He sees our frame and knows that we are but dust. He understands our limitations. None of this suffices as an excuse to sin, but it does demonstrate that He is compassionate of our state. Praise the Lord for His compassion, abundance in mercy, and overwhelming grace!
