Psalm 148

1Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord from the heavens;
Praise Him in the heights!
2Praise Him, all His angels;
Praise Him, all His hosts!
3Praise Him, sun and moon;
Praise Him, all you stars of light!
4Praise Him, you heavens of heavens,
And you waters above the heavens!
5Let them praise the name of the Lord,
For He commanded and they were created.
6He also established them forever and ever;
He made a decree which shall not pass away.
7Praise the Lord from the earth,
You great sea creatures and all the depths;
8Fire and hail, snow and clouds;
Stormy wind, fulfilling His word;
9Mountains and all hills;
Fruitful trees and all cedars;
10Beasts and all cattle;
Creeping things and flying fowl;
11Kings of the earth and all peoples;
Princes and all judges of the earth;
12Both young men and maidens;
Old men and children.
13Let them praise the name of the Lord,
For His name alone is exalted;
His glory is above the earth and heaven.
14And He has exalted the horn of His people,
The praise of all His saints—
Of the children of Israel,
A people near to Him.
Praise the Lord!
-Psalm 148

When the fall happened, the consequences did not just fall upon man. It fell upon all of creation. As we talk about original design, the point was that all things give glory to the Lord. The cry here in this Psalm is for all of creation to respond to the Creator. The Lord has adorned the earth with beauty and majesty. As such, it reveals the glory of the Creator.

When you look at a magnificent painting, the painting does not testify of itself. While we may be captivated by it and impacted by it, it still is not self-sufficient in giving itself glory. The work of it reflects the painter. The nature of a painting is to point back to the painter's hand. Likewise, it is the nature of the creation to glorify the Creator. Join together in the song of praise and rejoice in the Lord your God! Sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Magnify the Creator as His creation. Amen.
