Proverbs 1:20-27

20Wisdom calls aloud outside;
She raises her voice in the open squares.
21She cries out in the chief concourses,
At the openings of the gates in the city
She speaks her words:
22“How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity?
For scorners delight in their scorning,
And fools hate knowledge.
23Turn at my rebuke;
Surely I will pour out my spirit on you;
I will make my words known to you.
24Because I have called and you refused,
I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded,
25Because you disdained all my counsel,
And would have none of my rebuke,
26I also will laugh at your calamity;
I will mock when your terror comes,
27When your terror comes like a storm,
And your destruction comes like a whirlwind,
When distress and anguish come upon you.
-Proverbs 1:20-27

Have you ever done anything that was really stupid that you knew would be stupid but you did it anyways? Then it seems as though wisdom is mocking you, because the answer was obvious. There are cases where it does take great wisdom to discern things. However, wisdom makes itself apparent. There is a call for us all to walk in wisdom. Wisdom calls us out of simplicity, or foolishness, to walk in her way. This section starts to give examples of foolishness. There is a delight in scorning and a hatred for knowledge. See how the proverbs emphasize the importance of knowledge and heeding the words that are spoken.

Hosea 4:6 highlights that the Lord's people perish for a lack of knowledge. We should be hungry to know the Lord and know how to please Him. To do otherwise is foolishness. In like manner, it is foolishness to so desperately fill our time with things that fail to edify us in the faith. Foolishness disdains the counsel of wisdom and does not listen to the rebuke. As such, when foolishness is practiced, wisdom stands tall watching the calamity that follows. Heed the voice of wisdom and walk in the correction offered. Pray and seek teh face of the Lord that you may gain even more of a heart of wisdom.
