Proverbs 3:1-2

My son, do not forget my law,
But let your heart keep my commands;
2For length of days and long life
And peace they will add to you.
-Proverbs 3:1-2

Israel found themselves getting into a lot of issues simply by forgetting the Lord their God and forgetting His commandments. Ironically enough, I have found that we get ourselves into a lot of trouble for the same thing. We live in a world designed to distract and cause us to amuse ourselves. Amusement has become a good word for us, but it means to not think. If someone or something is your muse, you are going on about them all day long. They are constant on your mind. The prefix a- is a negation of that thing. Amuse is to be absent of that thinking.

When we strive for entertainment and amusement, we are positioning ourselves in a place to intentionally forget. This is why it is so easy for us to get home after a long day of work, exhausted and worn, and turn ourselves immediately to forms of entertainment. When this becomes our life cycle, we inevitably forget the Lord, find ourselves back in ways of sin and wonder how we ever got there again. Let the Lord be your muse. Meditate on His word day and night. Rejoice in Him. Consider Him. Pray without ceasing. Do not forget the Lord your God.
