Proverbs 4:1-4

Hear, my children, the instruction of a father,
And give attention to know understanding;
2For I give you good doctrine:
Do not forsake my law.
3When I was my father’s son,
Tender and the only one in the sight of my mother,
4He also taught me, and said to me:
“Let your heart retain my words;
Keep my commands, and live.
-Proverbs 4:1-4

Among many Christian circles, doctrine has become a bad word. People believe it over complicates a simple Christian walk or confuses the simple Gospel. I could not disagree more. Scripture emphasizes the importance of doctrine throughout it. By understanding doctrine, we can understand then manner of life in which we should walk. With doctrine, we can be ready to fend off deception. Usually bad doctrine leads to bad lifestyle practices as well. As we see good doctrine being given here, we should turn our attention to it and heed what is being said. Do not forsake or forget the instructions that follow. Whatever your strategy is to remember, I would employ it here.
