Proverbs 4:10-13

10Hear, my son, and receive my sayings,
And the years of your life will be many.
11I have taught you in the way of wisdom;
I have led you in right paths.
12When you walk, your steps will not be hindered,
And when you run, you will not stumble.
13Take firm hold of instruction, do not let go;
Keep her, for she is your life.
-Proverbs 4:10-13

The effect of wisdom in your life is evident. Making good decisions does preserve your life, and bad decisions can bring about unfortunate calamity. This is a good place to point out something about the proverbs. The book of Proverbs is not a book filled with promises, but with things that are generally true. For one who walks in wisdom, it is not guaranteed that they will live a long life, but it is generally true. There are places in the proverbs that are built around subjective circumstances. We need to be wise in how we approach our study of this book.

Along with the long life that we may live due to wisdom, there is also a path laid before us. Our steps do not need to be hindered and we do not need to stumble. Grab ahold of what wisdom has to offer. Heed the word of God which is a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your path. Do not become lax in this matter.
