Proverbs 6:16-19 - A Heart that Devises Wicked Plans
16These six things the Lord hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
17A proud look,
A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood,
18A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,
19A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren.
-Proverbs 6:16-19
The heart that devises wicked plans is one that is set upon wickedness. This is the direct opposite of a pure heart before the Lord. Jesus highlights the beauty of a pure heart and even speaks to the reward that awaits one who remains pure,
8Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall see God.
-Matt. 5:8
The pure in heart are blessed, and they are those that will see God. In other words, they are the ones that are welcomed before the presence of God. Yet for those whose hearts devise wicked plans,
10 and He repays those who hate Him to their face, to destroy them. He will not be slack with him who hates Him; He will repay him to his face.
-Deut 7:10
Wickedness is no light matter to the Lord. Grace cannot be used for us to regularly undermine the severity of sin. If we ever question just how severe it is, remember that God Himself had to physically come down as a man to die that we may live. Set yourself upon righteousness, meditating on things above, not on things on earth. Live well in the sight of your God.
