Proverbs 6:16-19 - Swift to Evil

16These six things the Lord hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
17A proud look,
A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood,
18A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,
19A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren.
-Proverbs 6:16-19

When you look at the world we live in today, you see a culture that is built around feet that are swift in running to evil. There is a hastening of wickedness in the hearts of people today. It is as though the world finds themselves in the middle of the desert, thirsting desperately for something they can find. Evil frames itself like a mirage where those who thirst rush to it thinking they will be quenched. Each time over they become more desperate and run speedily to evil, more and more with every turn, trying to satisfy their own lusts.

While there are feet that run swift to evil, what mission is it that our steps should carry? First and foremost, we should have our steps illuminated by the word of God.

105Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.
-Psalm 119:105

As our path is laid out before us, we carry with us a message.

7How beautiful upon the mountains
Are the feet of him who brings good news,
Who proclaims peace,
Who brings glad tidings of good things,
Who proclaims salvation,
Who says to Zion,
“Your God reigns!”
-Isaiah 52:7

Indeed, there are feet that seek to swiftly carry out evil, yet for us, we carry a message as ambassadors of the Lord. We, whose feet are shod with the gospel of peace, seek to bring about righteousness. Speak the message of the gospel. Be swift in running to righteousness. May your path be illuminated by the word of God.
