Proverbs 6:20-24

20My son, keep your father’s command,
And do not forsake the law of your mother.
21Bind them continually upon your heart;
Tie them around your neck.
22When you roam, they will lead you;
When you sleep, they will keep you;
And when you awake, they will speak with you.
23For the commandment is a lamp,
And the law a light;
Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,
24To keep you from the evil woman,
From the flattering tongue of a seductress.
-Proverbs 6:20-24

I recently heard from a man that practices a lot of survival technique what he said was the most important rule to follow if you are to survive in very life or death circumstances. He said to make a plan and then follow it. There will be things that pop up later when you are not in your right mind. It may seem at that point like it is a good idea, even though it deviates from the plan. But those are the stories that end up with lost lives or big mistakes. If you make the plan and commit to following it, even when your mind goes astray, you have a higher chance of survival. This is very similar to how we commit to the Lord.

We must be armed thoroughly with the word of God and maintain that. Stick to the plan and it will preserve you. It is when we deviate from Scripture that we find ourselves in great trouble. Temptation has a way of getting you out of your right mind. Therefore we must commit ourselves to the word. See how they can preserve and protect you. Likewise, should you stray, see what dangers await you. Deception lies in wait to whoever is ignorant of the truth. Arm yourself properly and trust in the Lord your God.
