Proverbs 7:10-20

10And there a woman met him,
With the attire of a harlot, and a crafty heart.
11She was loud and rebellious,
Her feet would not stay at home.
12At times she was outside, at times in the open square,
Lurking at every corner.
13So she caught him and kissed him;
With an impudent face she said to him:
14“I have peace offerings with me;
Today I have paid my vows.
15So I came out to meet you,
Diligently to seek your face,
And I have found you.
16I have spread my bed with tapestry,
Colored coverings of Egyptian linen.
17I have perfumed my bed
With myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18Come, let us take our fill of love until morning;
Let us delight ourselves with love.
19For my husband is not at home;
He has gone on a long journey;
20He has taken a bag of money with him,
And will come home on the appointed day.”
-Proverbs 7:10-20

Is this not the very pattern of deception as much as it is seducing? As sin lies at the door, its desire is for you. But you must rule over it. Sin tries to convince you that now is the opportunity to give in and indulge. Especially for those that are younger, the lie is that we have our whole lives to learn these lessons. It comes as a harsh realization when the frailty of life catches up with us sooner than we expected. Just as the seductress says that her husband will come on an appointed day, so will the Lord return at an appointed time. However, just as the harlot convinces that such a day will not be today, so the same does the enemy do with us. We think we are so laden with time that we can indulge in lustful behavior. This is foolishness. Consider the parable Jesus shared of the rich young fool.

16 Then He spoke a parable to them, saying: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. 17 And he thought within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’ 18 So he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.” ’ 20 But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’
21 “So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”
-Luke 12:16-21

We do not know when our final moments are. We have not cause or excuse to give in to the seducing woman. We have no cause to listen to the voice of deception. We have every cause to draw nearer to wisdom and grow in our understanding of the Lord. Keep yourself in the righteous path. Then on that day you may hear those famed words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
