Proverbs 10:12
12Hatred stirs up strife,
But love covers all sins.
-Proverbs 10:12
As we look at this verse, our natural instinct should be praise unto the Lord for how He has loved us. While we were still sinners, Christ died for the ungodly. He opened that door for us to enter in. And now as those who are in, how should this verse continue to apply to us?
If we see a brother or a sister in sin, we must consider what it means to walk in love. I have seen many believers, in the name of love, allow a fellow believer to continue in sin. But love covers sins. Love seeks to restore one who has entered into sin. Love is willing to confront in order to protect and preserve. To allow a brother to continue in sin is to stir up strife in their life. It is hatred to avoid restoration of a brother. Jesus calls us to that commandment in the book of John that elevates the loving your neighbor as yourself. For the believer, Jesus instructs that we love one another as He has loved us. And how has He loved us? He called us out of our sins and gave Himself for us. So let us do the same for one another.
