Proverbs 14:2

2He who walks in his uprightness fears the Lord,
But he who is perverse in his ways despises Him.
-Proverbs 14:2

If you remember from early on in the Proverbs, the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. We cannot forgo that important fact. We do not fear the Lord because He is mean or unjust. We fear Him because we know what He is capable of. It serves as guardrails that keeps us on the straight and narrow. For we know if we tread too far along the edges of the path, we might fall and suffer the consequences therein. The perverse consider the Lord differently. There is no fear. They despise the Lord. They despise morality. They despise the idea of consequences for their actions. The fear of the Lord leads us to respect and honor all of those. Fear the Lord and walk in uprightness.
