Proverbs 14:4

4Where no oxen are, the trough is clean;
But much increase comes by the strength of an ox.
-Proverbs 14:4

There are many animals talked about rather extensively throughout Scripture. Oxen are one of those that bears a certain significance. Paul highlights some of the significance in 1 Corinthians and 1 Timothy as he quotes Deuteronomy 25:4,

"4 “You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain."
-Deuteronomy 25:4

In his usage, he compares the ox to the one who is teaching the word of God. The one who is studying the word and bringing it before the congregation is like an ox who treads out the grain. So what happens if there are none to bring the word of God? This is what I believe this proverb is talking about. Increase comes by the strength of the ox. Growth comes by teaching and instruction in righteousness.
