Proverbs 14:5
5A faithful witness does not lie,
But a false witness will utter lies.
-Proverbs 14:5
There is some modern confusion surrounding the idea of false witness. We have broken it down to simply mean lying. While lying is in fact a major part of false witness, it has to do with a testimony concerning someone else and lying about that. Testifying falsely about one another is detrimental. Gossip and slander should not be in the mouth of the believer. For we are called to be faithful witnesses. Above all, as faithful witnesses, we should witness concerning the things of the Lord. Those who are swift to speak lies are untrustworthy. Their testimony becomes shallow. If we, who are called to be faithful, speak the truth, then our testimony has weight to it. Testify faithfully and speak the truth in love.
