Proverbs 14:20-21

20The poor man is hated even by his own neighbor,
But the rich has many friends.
21He who despises his neighbor sins;
But he who has mercy on the poor, happy is he.
-Proverbs 14:20-21

It is important that as we are going through life that we consider the perspective that others are going through. Take verse 20 for example. The perspective is coming from the one who has or does not have. The poor man does not have capacity to help, aid, or assist their neighbor. The rich has an abundance to pour from. As such, the poor man is hated by his neighbor, but many will cling to the rich. Verse 21 throws the other perspective out. What about when you are the neighbor in this situation? Do not despise your neighbor. Have mercy on the poor.

We should not be judging people on the basis of monetary gain. We should not be criticizing them on the basis of status. Just as Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5, we should regard no one according to the flesh. We must look at things spiritually. We must look at one another spiritually. Let us be righteous in our judgment.
