Proverbs 14:31

31He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker,
But he who honors Him has mercy on the needy.
-Proverbs 14:31

It has become a bit of a cliché to call people image-bearers. I pray that as we say such things that we are really throwing on the weight that such a statement should hold. The rich are not more of an image-bearer than the poor. They are not any more human. Partiality should have no place in our lives. Should we be partial and oppress the poor or show favor to the rich, we reproach the Lord, the Maker of these people. We judge unrighteously on the basis of matters of the flesh rather than matters of the Spirit. However, if our pursuit is to honor the Lord, our conduct begins to change. Instead of oppression, we show mercy. Instead of reproach, we walk by grace. Honor the Lord and have mercy on those in need.
