Proverbs 15:4

4A wholesome tongue is a tree of life,
But perverseness in it breaks the spirit.
-Proverbs 15:4

Paul teaches us in Ephesians that our use of the tongue should be to build up and edify. Where so many of our words these days are used to complain, grumble, or tear down, how different would you be if your words were used to edify? As the proverb above says, it would be a tree of life. It is the perversity that sits in the tongue that takes its power and removes what would otherwise be beneficial. The wholesomeness of the tongue has the ability to encourage, exhort, uplift, and stir the hearts of those around you to righteousness. Guard your tongue and choose what you say with the utmost caution. Seek to build up and edify with the things you say.
