Proverbs 17:19

19He who loves transgression loves strife,
And he who exalts his gate seeks destruction.
-Proverbs 17:19

We should know well that we as believers ought not to love sin. This, however, does not mean we are not still tempted to sin. Our love for sin is no longer present as it was when we did not believe. Rather than being a pig that returns to the mire, we are like a lamb that hastens to be free from it. For those who are not in Christ Jesus, what remains is a love for transgression and delight in sin. The one who is content in transgression to the point of loving it is also quite content in strife. The core issue that is being addressed in this proverb is that of pride. Self-exultation brings contention between an individual and those around them. Therefore, they love strife and transgression, for they love themselves above all else. When our mind is set upon loving the Lord above all else, then we care for our neighbors even over ourselves. Let your love be for the Lord, not for transgressions against Him.
