Proverbs 17:24
24Wisdom is in the sight of him who has understanding,
But the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.
-Proverbs 17:24
As we look back, we may remember that wisdom has to do with practical life here and now, while understanding has to do with eternal things. This gives a great insight into the nature of spiritual living leading to right living. Many of us have heard the old adage, "Don't be so heavenly minded that you're no earthly good." The problem with that is that one who is truly heavenly minded would never be no earthly good. It is an oxymoron in Christian vernacular. Our understanding of eternal things should drive us to live in a practical wisdom. It should not cause us to live in opposition to it. So while I do not hold to that old adage, I do believe it may warrant a new one. "Don't be so earthly minded that you're no good." This is the alternative to having a heavenly mindset. The fool's eyes are set on the ends of the earth. They are earthly minded. And as such, they are called out as fools, lacking in wisdom. You are left to make your choice. Will you choose to be heavenly minded or earthly minded?
