Proverbs 18:3

3      When the wicked comes, contempt comes also;
    And with dishonor comes reproach.

A great way to understand this is that a disease comes with its symptoms. A cold does not just bring itself, but comes along with sinus infections, coughs, sore throats, and the like. Wickedness does not come along by itself, nor does dishonor. They travel alongside contempt and reproach. Understanding the nature of what comes with these things should deter us from wanting to go anywhere near it. We may think for a moment that we can indulge for a moment into wickedness and escape its companions, but such the case is not true. They are one in the same. So let us cleave then to righteousness and keep ourselves in the light of the Lord. Flee from wickedness and present your members before God as instruments of righteousness. With this instead comes unity and liberty.
