Proverbs 18:12

12Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty,
And before honor is humility.
-Proverbs 18:12

Having a haughty heart sets up a man for failure. It is as we have heard it so commonly stated, "Pride comes before the fall." Most certainly we find this truth prevailing all around us. What then would be the alternative? Perhaps something akin to, "Humility comes before exaltation." This is indeed what Scripture teaches. He who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted. The high will be brought low and the low will be brought high. Humility sets one up for success, whereas pride begets destruction. I think it is wise for us to consider this continuously. "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." Pride fills a man, but humility empties him. With which do you think the Spirit of God can fill more? One who is already full, or one who is empty? Let us be emptied before the Lord and He will fill us.
