Proverbs 18:18
18Casting lots causes contentions to cease,
And keeps the mighty apart.

We do not know the exact nature of all that casting lots was, or even all that it had in mind. What we do know is that there are a lot of examples being used in Scripture concerning them. Since we do not have the ability to cast lots, what should we make of this? I think the most critical part of it is the goal and intent of causing contentions or quarrels to cease. Especially within the body of Christ, we are told to endeavor to keep the unity of the saints. We are the body of Christ and we should strive to dwell together in unity. We are also told, as much as within our ability, to be at peace with all men. We do not want to be a quarrelsome people. In fact, the Lord has given to us the ministry of reconciliation. Rather than allowing grudges and quarrels to dominate our lives, we should seek to reconcile and be reconciled. Let us be a peaceable people.
