Proverbs 18:23-24

23The poor man uses entreaties,
But the rich answers roughly.
24A man who has friends must himself be friendly,
But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
-Proverbs 18:23-24

There is a lot of wisdom in choosing your friends carefully. Something that I have considered many times is what I need to do to be the type of friend that is chosen after that careful consideration. Understanding that there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother, I ask myself if I am that type of friend. Just as we consider this for others, we must consider it ourselves. Beyond that, we must really determine what friendship means from a biblical perspective. We put a right importance on the value of family, but often then neglect the true and deep value of friendship. Let us not forget that Jesus walked out His years of ministry mostly around friends. There indeed is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. The bond found is one that is grounded in spiritual and relational depth. I pray that we ourselves might consider what kind of friend we tend to be.
