Proverbs 19:26
26He who mistreats his father and chases away his mother
Is a son who causes shame and brings reproach.

We must not underestimate just how important it is for a child to care for their parents. Our fathers may have a lot of wisdom to share, and our mothers have cared for us so diligently. But, for the sake of argument, let us say that is not the case. Are we then to mistreat our fathers since we may have been mistreated? Or do we not care for our mothers because we feel uncared for? Since when has the stipulation for walking in righteousness been only when others walk righteously toward us? Let us be diligent to treat our fathers well and given them honor. Let us be kind in caring for our mothers and coming alongside them. Let us not be a shameful people to those who have brought us up.
