Proverbs 20:3

3It is honorable for a man to stop striving,
Since any fool can start a quarrel.
-Proverbs 20:3

The term for striving here has to do with having strife with another person. The unfortunate part of when you have strife is that you cannot control both sides of the equation. You can only maintain your side of it. There is a sense in which that should be relieving for us. While it is true that you do not have control of the other side, you do have the ability to maintain your own. Therefore, it is honorable for a man to cease his own strife. It does not take a genius to quarrel with another person, but it does take strength to stop. By the grace of God, walk in forgiveness. As much as you can, be at peace with all men.
