Proverbs 20:19

He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets;
Therefore do not associate with one who flatters with his lips.

Gossip paves the paths for ruined friendships. Sometimes it is just a matter of sharing something confidential with someone who is a gossiper. I have seen friendships, marriages, families, and dozens of lives ruined by the way of gossip. It is enough of an issue that Scripture gives the blanket statement to not even associate with such an individual. They are divisive and destructive. If you yourself are a gossiper, consider how Scripture speaks concerning the act and repent. Pray and seek the Lord that you would have a guard over your lips. Consider what it is that you say and whether or not it is something that needs to be shared. For you who like to entertain gossip, cause the one who is gossiping to cease. Do not be afraid to call out gossip. Remember the effect that it has and act accordingly in grace, in love, and in wisdom.
