Proverbs 21:9

9      Better to dwell in a corner of a housetop,
Than in a house shared with a contentious woman.
-Proverbs 21:9

It can be a funny thing to joke around about a passage like this, but there is a lot of truth that we can learn from it. While the specific language is with a woman being contentious to her husband, the reverse is also true. A spouse who continually nags, grumbles, and complains creates a host of problems in a marriage. Peace and harmony are important virtues to strive for between a husband and a wife. While Scripture makes it clear that it is not good for man to be alone, this poses the contrast of it being better for a man to be alone than to be with someone who is contentious. The conundrum is obvious. It is a loss loss scenario.

Men and women, pray for your marriages. Those who seek to be married, do not seek someone who is contentious. If you are in need of counseling, I encourage you to pursue that. If you are in need of prayer, I ask that you ask. If you are struggling in the midst of this very topic, I encourage you to cling to the Lord to be your peace and your wisdom. Submit to Him first. He will guide you further. Marriage is important and giving up is not an option. Take the vow that you made with the Lord concerning your spouse with the utmost sincerity.
