Proverbs 21:15
15It is a joy for the just to do justice,
But destruction will come to the workers of iniquity.
-Proverbs 21:15
Understand that an individual does what their nature is. The just individual will perform justice. The righteous man will live out righteousness. The sinner will walk in wickedness. This is one of the biggest flaws in our modern thinking. We tend to think that we are the result of what we do rather than we do the result of who we are. We understand that a man doing a good thing does not make him righteous, but then we think that a man doing a bad thing is what makes him a sinner. When we look exclusively at the merit of one's actions to define their nature, we end up focusing on the wrong thing. We are not looking to simply make our actions better, we need a new nature in us. This is where we submit ourselves to the Lord and let Him have His perfect work in us. The justification the Jesus brought us into gave us a new spirit. The righteousness we now perform is a result of the work that the Lord has done. Just as Romans 6 teaches, we were previously free in regard to righteousness. We did not really care about what was righteous, we cared about what made us feel good. As believers, we now truly care about what is pleasing to the Lord. So walk in your new nature. It is the joy of the believer to please Him in whom he believes.
